![]() How much forest is in Russia? The most often referred figure in international sources is 763.5 millions hectares (which is equal to ___ acres). You could look, for example, at already mentioned Russia: forest policy during transition (A World Bank country study). 1997. The World Bank, Washington, D.C., page 30 or at official State of the World’s Forests 1999 report by UN Food and Agriculture Organization available on-line at the FAO Web-site. At the same time, most of the sources do not explain where this figure is originated from. In the footnote on page 30 of the above-mentioned Word Bank publication the authors confess that “Forest area and wood production estimates vary from one source of data to another”. Well, that’s true: the system of Russian forest statistic is so complicated that may confuse even World Bank experts. However, we will try with You to understand the basics of it to clarify about what particular figures published means. Thank You! I understand Russian forestry system. Just show me the figures, please. | |||||
