Prime Minister Mikhail Kas'yanov Opposed to Referendum

The Prime Minister believes that at the current time, it is unnecessary to conduct an All-Russian Environmental Referendum on the issue of nuclear waste storage. He made his announcement during a visit to the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute for Experimental Physics in Sarov.

"Now it (referendum) will be promoted on emotions," Kas'yanov said. It is his opinion that "the public currently does not have enough information on this issue. Some will say that it (storing nuclear waste) is bad, others will support it as a way for the country to obtain additional money." Kasyanov is convinced that only scientists and specialists are capable of deciding the issue.
