Russia Govt To Discuss Nuclear Power Sector Strategy
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov, in his opening remarks at a
government meeting here on Thursday, said the Russian government must
devote special attention to securing that the nuclear power sector
takes a worthy place in the fuel-and-power balance of Russia.
The government is to consider Russia's nuclear power industry
development strategies for periods ending in 2030 and 2050.
Kasyanov emphasised that "the nuclear power industry is one of major
components of the country's fuel-and-power balance and ensures the
energy security of the country". He pointed out that the government
members when discussing this matter must pay special attention to
the tariff policy, cross-subsidization, and the ensurance of the
reliability of the nuclear power industry.
When declaring open the first-ever meeting of the newly-composed
government, Kasyanov congratulated all those present on their being
"appointed to the high position of Government Member". "Just as we
promised, the Cabinet has been formed within the shortest possible
time, since no time must be wasted on organisational matters. We
are faced with many tasks which must be tackled in the coming weeks,"
he said.
