Russian Experts Work Out Wildlife Conservation Strategy
By Anna Varshavskaya
A draft strategy for the conservation of rare species of animals and plants
has been drawn up by Russian specialists.
In Russia, there are more than 400 species of animals, plants and mushrooms
which are on the verge of extinction, Valery Orlov, a section head at the
environmental protection department of the Russian Ministry of Natural
Resources told a news conference on Tuesday.
The draft strategy spells out ecological, legal and economic aspects of the
state of rare species, and recommendations on how to preserve them. It also
contains a number of proposals to supplement and modify the current
legislation on the conservation of rare species.
The suggested draft strategy is to be discussed at an international
conference on rare species. The conference is to be held in Moscow at the
end of this month.
