Organizational meeting of Forest Users Informal Club

On the 30 th of June 2000 organizational meeting of Forest Users Informal Club was held in the Conference Hall of International Media House. This meeting was organized by the Center of Forest Certification and Russian representation of WWF with support of Khabarovsk Territory Department of Natural Resources.

Representatives of the leading forest industry of Khabarovsk and Primorsky Territorys enterprises took part in this meeting, including delegates from TERNEILES, Sredneamgunsky timber industry enterprise, Business-Marketing and other companies. There were also representatives of Khabarovsk Territory Department of Natural Resources, Khabarovsk Territory Economic Committee as well as scientific and public organizations. Besides, there were present delegates from international organizations and funds, particularly, from WWF, Rockfeller Brothers Fund and Pacific Center for Protection of Environment and Natural Resources.

The participants of the meeting made a decision to establish the Informal Club of Responsible Forest Users. During the sitting were discussed Informal Club regulations, was determined its management structure and major areas of its activity. The Club is a voluntary association of business people, who realize the necessity, economic expediency and prospects of development of rational use of forest resources. The Club is founded with the purpose of support of improvement of methods of forest resources use that are ecologically steady and economically viable, as well as promotion of trade of domestic certified forest products.

Major directions of the Club's activity:

  • Organization of informal meet-ings and activities that allow to exchange ex-perience and improve knowledge in the sphere of steady forest resources use and voluntary forest certification.
  • Informational, advisory and legal support of Forest Users - Club members during elaboration of ecologic policy, im-provement of technology and methods of forest resources use, conduction of voluntary forest certification and ecological audit.
  • Establishment of partner relations with ecologically sensitive international consumers groups of certified forest industry products with the purpose of export development and fair trade.
  • Attraction of investments for development of multipurpose steady forest resources use and detailed processing of forest products at enterprises - Club members.
  • Image improvement of the Club and its members through:
    • organisation of meetings with mass media representatives
    • publishing of advertisement brochures and booklets
    • uploading of Club and its members related data to its site in the Internet
    • making of souvenirs with Club's emblem.
Moral Code of Club's members
  • I agree to participate in the process of improvement of ecologically steady, socially acceptable and economically viable methods of forest resources use as well as develop the process of voluntary certification.
  • I abide by the traditions and work in accordance with high ethic principles and norms of my profession
  • My production activity is improving not for account of worsening of forest ecosystems, degradation of natural resources and does not contradict ecological regulations and rules of forest use.
  • My way of forest management provides the preservation of biodiversity and ecological quality of environment.
  • I permanently care about improvement of both my colleagues' and my qualification.
  • I do not consider my membership in the Club to be a privilege, but regard it as a proof of my responsibility for the next generations' fortune.
